JVF knockdown and blending hammers feature a variety of interchangeable tips designed to fit the specific damage being repaired. Small, sharp and high spots are best repaired with small, sharp tips. The opposite is true with large, soft high spots being best repaired using a larger hammer tip with a broad face that spreads the energy evenly over the high spot. We recommend using smaller, sharper knockdowns for more stubborn damage—often encountered on aluminum panels. Softer metals need much less shock making a broad-style blending hammer face more effective.
